The Physical Education program at St. James Episcopal School provides cognitive content and learning experiences in a variety of activity areas such as basic movement skills, physical fitness, and team, dual, and individual sports.  The physical education program provides planned activities to meet each student's optimum physical, mental, emotional and social development.  Activities and sports that students can enjoy and pursue throughout their lifetime are designed to meet all students’ abilities.  Our goal at St. James Episcopal School is that the Physical Education program will promote lifelong physical activity.

"Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it." ~Plato

"Let us lay aside every weight…and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us…"  ~ Hebrews 12:1

The Music program at St. James Episcopal School provide students with the opportunity to begin and build a strong foundation in music history and in the knowledge and technical skills of musical performance. Substantive music education is capable of engendering the depth of understanding and personal commitment required for students to sustain meaningful, lifelong relationships with music—as appreciators, or as non-professional and professional musicians.

“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent” ~ Victor Hugo

"Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!" ~ Psalm 95:1

The art program at St. James Episcopal School is a conceptually based art program that begins in kindergarten. Mrs. Joni Tooke brings 23 years of teaching experience, 16 of which are specific to art education.  Her elementary program provides unique learning experiences in each grade level.  Students have the opportunity to produce creative and imaginative work that reflects skill development , knowledge of art history, understanding of art as an expression of cultural experience and development of skills in evaluation. Mrs. Tooke believes elementary art programs are critical to the development of the whole child.

“Every child is an artist, the problem is staying an artist when you grow up.”  ~  Pablo Picasso

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.”  ~ John 4:7

We offer a selection of creative enrichment programs that enhance the education and development of our students. Children at all grade levels get to enjoy Physical Education, Music, and Art class each week. Students third grade through fifth grade participate in Chimes choir and preform for the school twice a year in Chapel to show off all they have learned throughout the school year. Computer skills are taught through research activities related to science and social studies. At St. James Episcopal School, enrichment classes are important to teaching to the whole child and nurturing their individual strengths.

The Chimes Choir at St. James Episcopal School teaches music skills, teaching notes and coaching eye-hand coordination. Through music, we aim to foster social skills, motivate and minister to our students as well as create a sense of community. The most important component to having our ringing ensemble work as one unit or instrument and achieve the highest musical results is proper ringing technique. This is taught through a series of techniques called Ringing, Damping, Arm Extensions and Precision Ringing. Each of these movements is important and contributes to the overall sound of the choir.
