FOR THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE AT SJES, ALL ENTRANCES ARE LOCKED DURING OPERATING HOURS. AS ADDED SECURITY, THE INTERIOR SECURITY DOOR MAY ONLY BE UNLOCKED BY THE ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF FOR APPROVED VISITORS.
LEAVING EARLY
Campers who leave prior to the end of the day MUST be signed out through the school office by a parent or approved pick up person. An office staff member will call your camper to the office. For safety reasons, parents/guardians are not allowed to take their camper directly from a classroom. Please notify the office in advance if you know you will be picking your child up early and we will have them ready for you. A parent or guardian must give the camp staff permission or call the school office for anyone other than a parent or guardian to take a child from camp. If the camper will be returning after being picked up, the camper must be signed back in at the office prior to returning to their group.
VISITORS TO CAMP
All visitors to SJES Summer Camp, including parents, are required to sign in at the office before they will be allowed through the double doors or into the Chapel. This policy is for the safety of all the campers and will help the administrative staff keep track of persons on the campus in case of any emergency. Parents/visitors will only be allowed into the building if they have been asked to assist with a camp presentation, demonstration, or activity, and have completed the Safeguarding God’s Children course prior to volunteering.
CAMPER PICK-UP
Any individual picking up a camper(s) not known to camp staff, will be asked for identification. We will not release a child to anyone who is not a parent/guardian, or whom has be preauthorized to pick up your camper. Please contact the office if your child will be picked up by anyone other than their parents, or a pre arranged carpool or pickup person. If your student is going home with another SJES camper, please contact the school prior to pick up so the loading staff can be notified to minimize delays during pick up. If someone unknown to the SJES Summer Camp staff will be picking up your child, the St. James staff must know in advance who that person is. The person must present a picture ID to pick up the camper.
CAMPER SUPERVISION
Campers will be under the supervision of camp personnel during operating hours as well as during morning arrival, afternoon dismissal, and the ECC program. Personnel supervising our campers are certificated employees, or other certified volunteers. No camper will be left alone in a classroom, on the playground, in Chapel, or in any other location utilized by the Summer Camp staff as per policies set forth by the Diocese of West Texas.
SAFEGUARDING GOD'S CHILDREN
All camp administration, staff members, and volunteers (faculty/parents) must have taken the “Safeguarding God’s Children” training as required by The Episcopal Diocese of West Texas as well as have a valid background check on file with the school office. Volunteers are considered any person or persons who are left alone and working closely with the students for extended periods of time during the day. A complete record of authorized personnel and volunteers are kept in the school business office and updated frequently.
